Mounu Ocean Academy has been created this year as a natural evolution to the conservation activities which have been happening at Mounu Island over the last few decades. The vision of MOA is to expand the conservation potential of the island by developing our academy to share knowledge that will help us all work towards a sustainable present and future.
The Covid-19 pandemic allowed MOA the breathing space to develop from an idea into fruition as a viable and impactful marine conservation project here in the Kingdom of Tonga. The reduction in tourist numbers due to the closure of borders has allowed a well needed break for nature to rejuvenate and we are excited to use this time to grow the academy.
We want to be a catalyst for positive change and we are committed to meet the UN sustainability goals, particularly goal 14 of conserving the oceans and ensuring the sustainable use of marine resources.
